Well worth attending.
This was the first appearance in this immediate area in over a decade for Mei-lan and Ali. The Boss and the Band, mellowed over the years, have drifted away from the traditional rock roots and themes that were present in the '70's, but the Band still has a driving beat and Bruce is still able to captivate an audience with the waive of a hand. The Wrecking Ball songs, which predominated in the concert, invite self-assessment on a broader base than the individual self-assessment found in more traditional Springsteen songs. There's no way your attention can wander off like it might at a modern-day Rod Stewart concert, and there was this unifying we're-all-in-this-together feeling throughout almost the entire concert. Even if the 5-piece brass section puts out definite "Big Band" sounds from time to time, it's still rock & roll. The last part of the presentation at one point included an unmistakable jazz flavor. Young Clemons isn't the Big Man yet, but the crowd loved him (with Bruce's encouragement), and he's much more self-confident than when he first joined the Band. I personally would like to see more of those old songs, and for that reason, I gave it only 4 stars, figuring it was better than the show in San Jose a few months ago, yet not as good as the San Jose show a couple of years ago. Ultimately, the play list is not my call. Memories can't be all ya sing, as Ricky Nelson said. Good concert. Go see it.
